The festival turns 20 this year, with more than two dozen acts spread across three city-centre venues from Friday night to Sunday evening.

Sam Carter sings Nic Jones on Saturday night, while Lucy Ward and Narthen play the Wardwick on Sunday. Plenty of time to learn a chorus, although realistically you can just join in loudly on the bits you know and hope nobody notices the rest!

Amad on Burton Road does classic and contemporary Indian cooking in a warm, family-friendly room, and it is open from breakfast, for anyone who takes their curry seriously.

The Garlic Tandoori Lamb is marinated in garlic and spice, then grilled over hot coals, and the Butter Chicken comes in a silky, buttery tomato sauce. Then there is the biryani, sealed in its pot with cardamom, cloves and caramelised onions. Tear the naan slowly, because nobody has ever regretted mopping up the last of the sauce!

On Sunday night it brings its stand-up show to the Main House. Sit in the front row if you are feeling brave, or if you would like your job, your haircut and your marriage reviewed by a professional!
