Derbyshire County Cricket Club throws open its gates for Bonfire weekend, with a new, more intimate seated setup this year so you're not fighting for a view. There's a fun fair running alongside the display, and two nights to pick from if Friday turns out to be a washout.

Ticket+ gets you into the Pavilion, with an indoor bar and a balcony view. Sparklers stay at home, the ground does not allow them, so your eyebrows are safe.

Bates at 121 sits on Friar Gate and serves casual fine dining with a twist. Most of the menu is gluten free, and the Sunday lunch is gluten free all the way through, so nobody at the table has to ask the awkward question.

The menu on their site lists lamb kofta with romesco, harissa yoghurt, pomegranate and feta, and roast duck breast with parmentier potatoes and a blueberry and thyme sauce. Baked camembert comes with truffle oil, and the 16oz fillet steak is made for two, with chips, onion rings and peppercorn sauce. Sharing it nicely is the idea. Whether that happens once the plate lands is between you and whoever you brought.

QUAD's Sip and Sculpt evening hands you a lump of clay and a bit of guidance, with the bar open, and sees what happens. It's an 18+ session in the Studio One workshop space, no experience needed.

Your effort probably won't end up on a mantelpiece, but it'll be yours, wonky handle and all.

Local producers fill the Conference Centre with cheese, pies, chocolates, preserves, rustic breads, cake and gin, alongside festive gifts, crafts and homeware. There are street food stands too, sweet and savoury, so you can stay for lunch with a hot chocolate.

Buy the gin for the Christmas table now, and hide it before the Christmas table arrives.
