The Market Hall goes all in for Halloween weekend with ghost walk tasters, a scavenger hunt, a family ghost trail, a Top 10 ghost stories exhibition and illustrated talks, plus Halloween music and a colouring station for anyone too young for the scary bits.

There's also the Haunted Derby Quiz with £100 in vouchers to win, the first time knowing far too much about ghosts has ever paid off.

Darcy's is a good old traditional chippy on Manor Road, open seven days a week, with a restaurant to sit in or a takeaway to grab and go, and fish fried in their own house batter.

Try the House Fish Pie, cooked to order under hot buttery mash, the Honey Halloumi Fries with honey for dipping, or the fish clusters, the whole chippy tea in one crispy bite. Nobody has to know you went twice this week.

The tunnels at Calke Abbey fill up with witchcraft and sorcery, potion jars and ghosts, for all ages but particularly 4 to 7 year olds. There's no booking, last entry is 4pm, and the first hour each day is a quiet hour with the sounds off or turned down.

It isn't suitable for wheelchairs or buggies, with 14 worn stairs at the end, so leave the pram in the car and carry the brave one out.

Exhibitors from up and down the country fill the Conference Centre with antiques, vintage treasures and collectables, from jewellery and artwork to ceramics and clocks, all under one roof.

Go early on Saturday for first pick, and measure the boot before you fall for a wardrobe.
