Melbourne Festival Art Trail, Invention Music Festival, Plus a Comedy Club Night!

Morning! It's a big one for anyone who likes their weekend with a bit of culture attached. Melbourne Festival turns 21 with 175 artists opening up 65 venues, including private houses you'd never normally get inside, and Invention Festival takes over six city-centre venues with 40-plus live acts on a single wristband.

There's also a comedy club night, a moonlight walk for Treetops Hospice, and a chocolate tasting event at Hotel Chocolat if your idea of culture is slightly more edible!

Melbourne Festival turns 21 this year, with 175 regional artists spread across 65 venues, showing everything from paintings and photography to pottery, sculpture and jewellery. Quite a few venues are private homes and historic buildings, so there's a chance to have a nose around somewhere you wouldn't normally get through the front door.

There's also live music, a Food Fayre on Castle Street and a family area with music, poetry and singing!

Eat @ Denbys does freshly cooked breakfasts, brunch and lunch, with local bacon and sausages and coffee ground on site. The Sunday Giant Full English comes with two of nearly everything, while the pancake stacks come in Oreo, Biscoff or American. There’s also loaded hash, flatbreads and a posh fish finger sandwich. Basically, you're going to need a bigger table!

Invention is a brand new one-day music festival taking over six independent city-centre venues, with one wristband getting you into all of them. More than 40 acts are playing across punk, metal, rock, psych-folk, electronic and acoustic, including Good Health Good Wealth, She Drew The Gun and TVAM. Basically, six venues, 40+ acts and one very good excuse to make a day of it.

The monthly comedy night is back at The Derby Conference Centre, with food from 5pm, last orders at 7pm and the comedy starting at 7:30pm. Four acts are on the bill, so you can settle in with some dinner, a few drinks and a couple of hours of stand-up before heading home around 10pm. A decent way to spend a Friday night.
