Things To Do This Week: A Fresh Bistro Opening And The Farmers Market You’ll Want In Your Calendar!
In partnership with
Morning! Happy New Year. Hopefully the Christmas break treated you well, the food was generous, the sofa got plenty of use and you managed to switch off at least a little.
This is very much first week back energy, with lighter diaries, slower starts and no rush to overcommit. The list is shorter than usual and that is no bad thing after the festive sprint. The good news is what is coming next.
Later this month and into February the calendar fills up quickly, so this week is about easing back in, saving a few dates, and getting back into the habit of planning your weekends again.

This one is not for this weekend dashers, it is for planners. Derby Farmers’ Market returns later this month and it is worth locking in now before January fills up. Local growers, independent producers and food traders take over the Market Hall for a full day of browsing, picking up fresh produce and stocking the kitchen with things that actually make cooking feel rewarding. It is relaxed, easy to wander, and ideal for a slow Sunday reset. Save it, set the reminder, and thank yourself later.

📅 - Sun: 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM

El Camino has just opened in Borrowash and it already feels like one of those spots that quietly rearranges your plans. Mornings are pastries, coffee and a slow start. Evenings move into Mediterranean small plates built for sharing, stretching the table and losing track of time.
The menu runs from padron peppers and anchovies to garlic prawns, scallops, empanadas and a Basque cheesecake that earns its place at the end. Add cocktails, vermouths and wines chosen with care and suddenly one drink turns into dinner without any effort.

Food runs all day and into the evening, paired with a freshly launched no and low drinks menu for anyone pretending January is about restraint. Just book a table and turn up before the sell out signs go up.
