Things to do this week: Inflatable Fun Day at Derby Rugby Club, Ram Comedy Festival, Plus Dogs Competing at Chaddesden Park!

Morning! The inflatable family fun day lands at Derby Rugby Club this weekend, two full days of giant slides and unlimited bouncing for £10 a child, adults in free and strictly banned from the inflatables.

It's also Ram Comedy Festival week, with free and ticketed shows running all week at Dubrek Studios, the Old Bell Hotel, and across town. If you've never been to a local comedy night, this is the week to try one. There's something on most nights and several of them are free.

The UK’s biggest inflatable family fun day is rolling into Derby Rugby Club for the weekend with giant slides, activity zones, and three full hours of unlimited bouncing for kids aged 2 to 12.

Adults get in free, mainly because your role here is standing next to the inflatable holding shoes, jackets, half-drunk Capri Suns, and occasionally shouting “careful!” into the distance.

There’s bumper cars, trampolines, and hook-a-duck on site too if the children somehow still have energy left, plus absolutely no booking needed. Just turn up and prepare to hear “watch this!” roughly 700 times.

The Boot in Repton has been standing there since the 1600s, which means it’s survived wars, empires, and now people photographing their roast potatoes before eating them.

Inside, it’s all Boot Beer on tap, two AA rosettes, and a menu that quietly escalates from “just a quick bite” into duck breast, lamb rump, braised beef pie, and somebody ordering extra small plates “for the table” that are clearly not for the table.

Then there’s the champagne breakfast. Full English, Eggs Royale, smashed avocado, pastries, brownies, prosecco or champagne before midday, and suddenly the whole table starts behaving like they’re on a weekend away in the Cotswolds.

The Big One returns to Chaddesden Park on Sunday with stalls, live entertainment, dance displays, food, a funfair, and the annual dog show that somehow becomes the main sporting event of the afternoon.

There’ll be extremely confident labradors, tiny dogs with enormous attitudes, and owners reacting to rosettes like somebody’s just won Wimbledon.

Free entry, outdoors all day, and an easy answer for anyone currently being asked “what are we doing Sunday then?” every twenty minutes.

Split Drinks and The Camper Club are parking up along East Avenue at Elvaston Castle for a two-night campervan stopover that feels far more peaceful than most weekends usually manage to be.

No itinerary, no forced activities, just campervans lined beneath the trees, dogs wandering about happily, food and drinks on site, and groups of people slowly settling into camp chairs like they’ve trained for this their entire lives.

All makes and models are welcome too, from beautifully restored classics to vans held together mainly by optimism and a camping kettle.
