Things to do this week: Markeaton Park Food Festival, CBeebies House Party Live, Plus the Derby Cathedral Abseil!

Morning! The Markeaton Park Food Festival takes over the park across both days this weekend, free entry, street food, live music and the dog's welcome too.

Also on Saturday, CBeebies House Party Live brings Mr Tumble and Duggee to Vaillant Live for the little ones, and the Derby Cathedral Abseil is back, where you climb 189 steps up the tower and then abseil 212 feet straight back down for charity.

Two very different ways to spend a Saturday, both involving a lot of noise.

The Markeaton Park Food Festival returns for two days of street food, live music, bars and plenty of space to sit back and enjoy it all. The first lap is never about buying anything, it's about saying, "Let's see what else there is first," before ending up back at the very first stall.

Entry is free, dogs are welcome, and there's enough choice to keep everyone happy. Just don't be surprised when someone else's order suddenly looks better than yours.

Toast & Co has just opened in Park Farm, serving everything from full breakfasts and Eggs Royale to smashed avocado, French toast and fluffy pancakes! The Toast Breakfast packs in bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, hashed potatoes, sourdough and all the usual suspects for £12.50, with vegan and American options alongside it.

The drinks deserve just as much attention, with everything from a Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso topped with banana cold foam to a Strawberry Iced Matcha. There's also a kids menu with Mr Toasty to colour in, so everyone's got something to keep them happy.

CBeebies House Party Live arrives at Vaillant Live on Saturday with Mr Tumble, Duggee, Mister Maker, Rebecca Keatley and Nigel Clarke bringing songs, games, dancing and plenty of audience participation for little ones.

Directed by Justin Fletcher and produced by the CBeebies House team, every performance includes a BSL interpreter, and under 18 months go free if they don't need a seat. Just be prepared to hear the songs again... and again... on the journey home.

🧗 - Derby Cathedral Abseil - Climb 189 Steps, Then Immediately Undo All of That Progress!

The Derby Cathedral Abseil is back for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, and it's exactly as it sounds. You climb the 189 steps to the top of the tower, take in the panoramic views, get harnessed up, and then abseil 212 feet back down the front of it, passing the clock face on the way.

Registration is £20 and you raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship, all of which goes to patients and staff across Derby, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Time slots run from 8am to 5pm. Genuinely good cause, genuinely long way down.
