Things to do this week: The Dark Arts Market, St George's Day Celebrations, Plus a Pottery & Meditation Evening!

Morning! A free gothic arts market at the Wardwick Museum this weekend, forty-plus creators, dark arts, jewellery and tarot, the kind of thing that costs nothing to get into and considerably more to leave. Also on Saturday, the annual St George's Day celebrations are back in the city centre, free, with a dragon walking around town at noon which is a sentence that doesn't get written enough.

For something a bit different midweek, Flint & Gaia Studios in Banks Mill are running a goddess dish pottery and meditation workshop on Wednesday evening. Guided meditation, clay, and a finished piece that comes back to you six to eight weeks later.

Croots is the only place where you can have breakfast, buy homemade sausages, and wave at a Shire horse in one visit. The fully licensed cafe sits above the Ecclesbourne Valley with views across the fields, all food produced and home cooked on site, gluten free and vegan options included.

The farm shop is loaded with home-reared lamb, local beef, pork, homemade pies, quiches, cakes and enough produce that you'll struggle to leave with just the one thing.

Derby's annual St George's Day celebrations are back in the city centre, free and open to all. There's a St George and Dragon battle from The Lost Boys at noon, knightly sparring with Team Falchion, medieval crafts at St Peters Cross, a puppet show, folk singers, and a dragon wandering around the city centre which is exactly as good as it sounds.

Shield making runs from 10:30 AM in the Market Hall if you want to get the kids started early. Everything wraps up around 2 PM, so a solid morning out with no ticket required.

Flint & Gaia are running a goddess dish workshop at Banks Mill Studios on Wednesday evening. It starts with a guided meditation to get you grounded, then potter Scarlett takes you through sculpting your own goddess trinket dish from clay, decorated however you like, stamped with affirmations, finished in whatever colours feel right.

Everything is included in the £40, tuition, tools, firing, glazing, drinks and biscuits. Your piece comes back to you six to eight weeks later, which is a suspiciously long time to wait for something you made with your own hands on a Wednesday, but that's the magic of a kiln.
