Morning! Easter weekend has turned up with a full diary. Denby’s Easter Extravaganza brings big savings and a chance to show some love to a local name that could really use it, Banks Mill has makers, prints and sale rails calling your name, and Melbourne Animal Farm is ready with lamb cuddles, chicks and enough to keep the kids busy till tea time.

Add the funfair still rolling on at Markeaton Park, and sitting at home starts to look like a very weak plan!

Denby Pottery Village’s Easter Extravaganza is three days of clearance bargains, food and drink, product demos, plus charity and makers stalls. With the recent Save Denby news, this feels like a very good time to show up and support a Derbyshire name that means a lot to people. The pop up sale is the main draw, with up to 70% off and prices starting from £3. Just note the Craft Studio is currently closed, so the Easter activities are no longer going ahead.

We're Starting a Dinner Club. You're invited.

Nobody tells you that meeting new people gets a bit weird once life gets a bit more serious.

Not on purpose. Work gets busy, routines set in, the sofa gets more appealing, and suddenly your social life is a WhatsApp group where everyone says 'we should do something soon' and nobody does.

We've been quietly working on something a bit different. A Derby dinner club. You don't pick where. You don't know who you're sitting with. You just show up.

Here's How it Works

1. You fill out a quick quiz about your interests, food preferences, and the kind of people you're hoping to meet, and get matched with five locals.

2. The morning of the dinner, you find out which local restaurant your group is heading to.

3. Everyone goes out on the same night, just at different restaurants.

4. Once dinner's done, every group converges at one secret location to keep the night going. Totally optional, but you'll want to go.

The Details

There's a small booking fee to save your seat, and you pay for your own meal on the night. We handle the matching, the bookings, and the reminders. All you have to do is turn up.

This is the first one, so spots will be limited. If it goes well, we'll keep running them.

Originally from Massachusetts and now sat in Church Gresley, 1950s American Diner has the old school diner thing down without feeling like a fancy dress version of America.

Reopened under new ownership in 2023, it goes all out on all day breakfasts, chicken and waffles, Philly cheesesteaks, dirty dogs, tater tots, and burgers that make you stop halfway through and reassess the rest of your evening. This is not the place for a side salad and a sensible night!

Melbourne Animal Farm is going full Easter on Saturday. There are lamb cuddles, chicks, rabbit and guinea pig grooming, plus an egg hunt, Easter crafts, and an egg and spoon race before the Easter Bunny makes an appearance.

Your ticket gets you all day on the farm, along with the bouncy castle, indoor play, and all the animal handling. Ideal if the plan is fresh air, happy kids, and an early night for everyone involved.
