Things To Do This Weekend: Fix Your Favourite Jacket, Do Afternoon Tea, And Linger Around Great Northern Classics!

Morning! This weekend’s got a handy mix of lively nights and slower daytime plans, which suits January when you still want to go out but also want to make Sunday feel normal.

One minute you’re out for a cheeseboard night or a charity gig, the next you’re fixing your favourite jacket, swapping that unwanted gift that’s been judging you from the corner of the room, or stretching out the afternoon with something a bit more civilised.

Are you looking to get in front of 10,000+ Derby locals?

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK?

🧵 - Clothes & Textile Repair Café - Fix It, Alter It, Keep It
📍 - Museum of Making
📅 - Sat 17th January
⏰ - 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
🎟️ - Free (suggested £3 donation)
📷 - @derbymuseums

This is a drop in repair café for anyone with clothes that are too good to throw away but not quite wearable anymore. Bring along torn seams, missing buttons, tired hems or half finished craft projects and get hands on help from skilled volunteers who know their way around fabric.

You can learn how to mend, adapt or tweak pieces so they actually get worn again, or just sit, cut patterns and work on something creative while chatting with people who enjoy making things rather than binning them.

🎟️ - Free (suggested £3 donation)

SCRUMPTIOUS SCOOP

🇬🇷🍽️ - Yassou Greek Kitchen - Greek Food That Hits The Spot!
📍 - 162 Alfreton Road, Little Eaton
⏰ - Wednesday to Friday: 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM
⏰ - Saturday: 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM
📷 - @yassou_greekkitchen

This awesome place in Little Eaton is built around food that arrives hot, glossy, and impossible to ignore. Halloumi comes out bronzed and squeaking. Gyros are stacked high with juicy meat, warm flatbread, and sauces that drip before you sit back down. Honey roasted loukanika lands sticky and dangerous, the kind of plate that disappears while everyone pretends they only had one piece!

Vegetarian and vegan options are solid too, plus gluten free choices, so nobody ends up doing the awkward “I’ll just have chips” routine.

ACTIVITY ALLEY

🎨 - Art In The Park - Paint, Pastels, And A Peaceful Saturday Window
📍 - Markeaton Craft Village, Markeaton Park
📅 - Every Saturday
⏰ - 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM & 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM
🎟️ - £15 per child
📷 - @artintheparkderby

A weekly art class for kids aged 7 to 16 that swaps screens for paintbrushes and turns creative energy into something that can go on the fridge instead of the walls. They stay focused, covered in paint, and oddly proud of themselves. You get a calm window to drink a hot coffee and remember what silence sounds like. They also do adult classes!

FRESH EXPERIENCES

🫖 - Afternoon Tea That Quietly Takes Over Your Day
📍 - The Malt, Aston on Trent
⏰ - Served Every Saturday 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
🎟️ - £21 per person | £25 with prosecco
📷 - @themaltataston

This is classic afternoon tea done every week without pretending it’s a light snack. Finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, and a line up of cakes that makes “we’ll just share” last about 30 seconds. Tea and coffee keep coming, prosecco is available if the afternoon needs encouragement, and nobody is watching the clock.
