Morning! This weekend has Lost in Music at Derby Arena on Saturday night with a live band, glitter balls, and two hours of disco classics that make staying seated feel like a personal failing. Before that, Saturday has the Pre-War and Vintage Day at GNC with cars and bikes from before 1940, and the Derby Young Traders Market at the Market Hall in the morning.

Sunday has the Derby Makers Market across two levels of the Market Hall, free entry, and enough carefully selected independent stalls to turn a quick browse into an entire afternoon without anyone noticing.

Lost in Music lands at the Arena on Saturday with a live band, huge vocals, glitter balls, and over two hours of disco classics from Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Chic, Earth Wind & Fire, Sister Sledge and more.

This is very much the type of night where people arrive saying “we’re not dancing tonight” before immediately abandoning that position halfway through Le Freak.

Sequins are heavily encouraged, sitting still becomes unrealistic quite early on, and somebody’s definitely going to lose their voice attempting the high notes in I Will Survive.

Great Northern Classics is hosting a full pre-war and vintage day on Saturday with cars and bikes from before 1940 rolling in for a gathering of chrome, crank handles, and engineering that feels slightly terrifying by modern standards.

There’ll be displays throughout the site, plenty of indoor space, and the Tram Shed café running breakfast in the morning and lunch from noon for anyone needing a sit down after hearing the phrase “they don’t build them like this anymore” for the eighteenth time.

Free entry, free parking, and a very high chance of leaving knowing far more about carburettors than you did when you arrived.

The Derby Makers Market takes over two levels of the Market Hall on Sunday as part of the anniversary weekend celebrations, with independent makers, workshop spaces, live music, and enough handmade things to make self control feel unrealistic.

The stalls have been carefully picked, which means there’s a very high chance of becoming emotionally attached to a candle, print, or tiny ceramic object within the first fifteen minutes.
